About Matt Connors

I am a plein air painter of familiar subjects and landscapes. I am moved less by the physical reality of the subject than its impact on my mood. The essence of the scene is presented whimsically in the language of watercolor. The details are in the viewer's imagination.

Matt's background is in medicine. He was Professor of Medicine at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine and retired in 2000. He has always had a passion for painting and over the past 20 years he has exclusively used watercolor. Although he considers himself largely self taught, during medical school in New York City, he also attended Art School at the Brooklyn Museum of Art and has participated in many workshops over the years.
